Tommie Elliott   (1931 - 1989)

One of the marks of a great driver is his abililty to attract, keep, and even move from ride to ride.  Car owners, historically, have been a demanding and finicky lot, seeking to hire drivers capable of winning but bringing the car home each week in one piece - and only those who approach that difficult balance succeed in getting good rides.  One of the first to achieve that level of success was Tommie Elliott, who is shown here in different rides that he campaigned throughout his career (1954-1978).

Tommie Elliott was a member of the All Star League with great drivers such as Geoffrey Bodine (note the All Star Helmet in the XL-1 photo).  He is remembered and by other greats such as Bobby Allison, A.J. Foyt, Ray Evernham, Chris Economacki, Ken Squire, to name a few.

He knew a lot of people in racing.  He just never knew his only son.  A lost legacy.
